6 Retro-fabulous vintage clothing shops in Orange County Jennifer Hood October 10, 2012 @Orange County, Locale Magazine Post, Style, Style | Orange County 2 Comments With such a colorful, cultured, and style savvy population as Orange County has had for the past slew of decades, how could our vintage clothing scene be any less fabulous? For all of you fans of vintage finds; those of you who love digging through racks waiting for the perfect ’40s fur coat in your size, or that just worn-in enough random graphic tee; for those of you who have a running tab at the local dry cleaner (nothing takes the swagger out of vintage clothes like that musky, musty vintage smell); and those of you who refuse to listen to anything if not on vinyl; this post is for you. Here I present you with 6 must-shop local vintage shops in Orange County. 1. American Vintage Situated right off of downtown Main Street in Huntington Beach, American Vintage is a great spot for vintage finds in Orange County. Besides the well curated selection of vintage denim, jackets, furs, and tees at a friendly price, there’s a great variety of accessories, bags, scarves and patches (1972 Trinity High Father Daughter Dance patch anyone?). 201 Main St, Ste C Huntington Beach, CA 92648 714-969-9670 2 & 3 Elsewhere Vintage & Joyride Vintage This little vintage store gem is set fittingly in the antique-shopping epicenter of Orange County, Downtown Old Towne Orange. With technically three locations of different names (2 for Elsewhere, one called Joyride that is for men) doors down from each other, Elsewhere Vintage carries a variety of vintage, thrift and retro reproductions. Some of the items are more pricey, but the reproductions save you a buck and still look legit. Great thing about this place? The clothes tags list the piece’s measurements, so it’s easier to anticipate if it will fit or not. The clothing is well organized by size and type, which is super helpful for browsing. Swing by, grab some retro threads, and then mozy over to Watson Drug and Soda Fountain for a chocolate malt in an old school diner. That should wrap up the time warp jump you just did. 131 W Chapman Ave Orange, CA 92866 714-771-2116 4. Villains Vintage On Chapman Ave. just a few blocks away from Elsewhere Vintage, this Orange County vintage shop has great parking, a great selection of vintage and retro-inspired clothing including tons of denim jackets and vintage cutoff rocker tees, and even a few vintage home décor pieces! Other fun finds include old school luggage sets, a small collection of vintage cameras, and even a stash of throwback girly mags! Perk? They keep their Facebook updated with latest additions to their vintage collection. Definitely one of my favorite spots. 940 West Chapman Avenue #102 Orange, CA 92868 714- 628-7488 www.villainsvintage.com/ 5. Stray Cat Vintage Stray Cat Vintage is a retail time portal that goes beyond clothing. A staple of downtown Fullerton, Stray Cat shares its space with music store Black Hole. The dual shop is teeming with great vinyl, bootleg records, ’80s memorabilia, vintage music stickers, jewelry, even costumes and wigs. That’s all besides the vintage clothing! 108 N Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA. 714-738-5680 www.straycatvintage.info 6. Swellegant Vintage For the quirky, eccentric vintage finds, just walk through that retro diner door of Swellegant Vintage’s sea foam green/blue exterior. The racks are stuffed and overflowing, so get ready for a good dig. Less curated than some stores, Swellegant is still packed with great treasures. 3409 Newport Blvd. Newport Beach, CA 92663 949-673-3604 www.swellegantvintage.com EmailPrint 2 Responses Anon October 10, 2012 The captain’s helm in Costa Mesa closed down quite a while ago, sadly. Log in to Reply admin October 10, 2012 Good catch, we wrote this a while ago and assumed it was still there. It’s so hard to keep track! Luckily they have the store in Oceanside.
